GLOSSARY

+ What is aspect ratio?

Simply put, the aspect ratio describes the ratio between the width to the height of a video.

16:9 (1920x1080 pixels) describes a landscape video.

1:1 (1080x1080 pixels)describes a square video (because all sides are the same).

4:5 (1080x1350) describes a portrait video.

9:16 (1080x1920) describes a fullscreen portait video that fills your phone screen.

+ What is frame rate?

Frame rate (often written as fps, meaning frames per second) refers to the number of still frames played every second in your video. The standard for Vidsy content is 25fps.

+ What is cropping?

Cropping is thep process of removing the outer parts of an image to improve framing, to accentuate a certain part of the shot.

+ What is framing/reframing?

Framing efers to the way a shot is composed, and the manner in which subjects and objects are surrounded ('framed') by the boundaries or perimeter of your image.

Reframing describes the process you might go through for Vidsy content that needs to be submitted in a different aspect ratio to the size you shoot in - for example, if your camera records landscape (16:9) video, you might need to reframe all the shots in your end to make the best use of a (4:5) portrait aspect ratio!
